Christkindl Glühwein – German Spiced Wine

This warm winter drink will put you in the holiday spirit.

  • ¾ cup orange juice
  • ¼ to ½ cup (to taste) sugar or honey
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 large orange
  • 10 cloves
  • 1 bottle dry red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon is a good choice)
  1. Combine orange juice, sugar and cinnamon stick in a large pot.
  2. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to simmer.
  3. Cut the orange in half and stud with the cloves
  4. Add to the simmering liquid and continue cooking for 30 minutes.
  5. Pour in the wine and gently heat. DO NOT BOIL.
  6. Remove the orange halves or strain and serve.
  7. Garnish with a cinnamons stick or orange peel curls.
