Camping Food: Ideas for Your Next Trip

Between the cooler temperatures and gorgeous foliage in so many parts of the country, I have a lot of friends heading out on camping trips right now. And while having the right gear is certainly important, you know what else you need? Excellent camping food! Of course, we have a few ideas.

4 Camping Food Ideas

Try a dehydrated meal. Good To-Go has four dehydrated meals (Thai Curry, Classic Marinara, Three Bean Chili and Herbed Mushroom Risotto) that are, like, legitimately good (not to mention the fact that they have vegetarian and gluten-free options). I mean, good enough that, while they’re ideal for eating when you’re out in the woods, I’ve made them in the comfort of my own home because I think they’re tasty. All you do is open the pouch, mix ingredients if directed to do so, add boiling water, and wait a few minutes. Yeah, it’s that easy!

Try making your own meals in a bag. This requires a bit more planning and prep, for sure, but the concept is similar — take your nutritious meal with you in a lightweight bag, add boiling water, and eat up! The Yummy Life has six recipes, like couscous with apricots, macadamia nuts and chicken, Thai peanut noodles and more, with the nutritional breakdowns, directions and anything else you might need. Brilliant!

Try wrapping it in foil. Foil packet meals on the grill are hardly revolutionary, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get creative and whip up something outside of meat and potatoes! You can make pasta with veggies and goat cheese, shrimp, salmon, quesadillas … you name it!

Try shaking up your s’mores. Maybe you never, ever get bored with traditional s’mores, but if you want to try something new, what’s stopping you? Cooking Classy has recipes for lemon meringue pie s’mores, chocolate lovers s’mores and more (s’more?), and you won’t be surprised that we were drawn to this Nutella s’mores recipe.

What’s your favorite meal to have while camping? There are so many delicious options that it seems a shame to stick to hot dogs and burgers, right? Kristen
