Recently on Fit Bottomed Girls, I shared my interview with Heather B. Armstrong, creator of the popular blog, Dooce.com. You know I couldn’t just stop at the fitness questions. Fitness and well-being means discussing the whole healthy enchilada and because Heather digs Mexican food, we knew she’d understand. She recently wrote about her experience with juicing, so I knew once she was done with the five-day plan, she’d be gung-ho about dishing on dishes.
Fit Foodie Blogger We Love: Heather Armstrong Dooces on Dishes
What is your favorite healthy meal? I love a good chicken salad! In fact, I eat one every day for lunch. The dressing might change … maybe even some of the ingredients, but I will always have a chicken salad. Sometimes I’ll add fruit or nuts or an avocado to switch it up, but I love that salad.
If you could only eat three things for the rest of your life, what would they be? Chips and salsa. Chips and salsa, and chips and salsa. I love Mexican food! It’s not in the Paleo diet, but I still do it. It’s the one grain I will eat and not feel bad about. It’s definitely my favorite food.
What’s the one kitchen appliance or utensil that you couldn’t live without? When I do cook I use my vegetable steamer quite a bit. I’ll throw some broccoli, or some carrots or cauliflower in it and then add it to our meals. Oh! And I love my slow cooker, too!
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? Kimchi. A friend made me try it once. I am not a fan.
If you could make one unhealthy food magically healthy, what would you choose? I’m not a big chocolate fan, but salt, on the other hand, has always been my weakness. If McDonald’s, Burger King or Wendy’s fries could magically become healthy, I’d be happy.
I know Jenn would eat all the kimchi Heather passed up if she could, but I’m totally on board with her ambivalence to chocolate (and love of a good old-fashioned fast-food french fry). What about you? What unhealthy food do you wish was healthy? —Tish
