This month’s amazing strawberry kiwi smoothie recipe is by Dana Shultz of DietsInReview.com. So fresh and delicious!
Spring is almost here. Do you feel it? I certainly do. The month of February brought some of the wildest winter storms the Midwest has ever seen. But now that we’re breezing into March, things have cleared up, the sun is out, and I’ll be packing away my winter coat, gloves and bustling scarf collection before I know it.
With spring comes thoughts of running outdoors again, grilling with friends and slimming down to show off our best assets in tank tops, dresses and shorts. We all know that exercise does wonders for toning our bodies and providing us with more energy. But when it comes to actually shedding pounds, it’s all about diet.
Cutting a few hundred calories by skipping that extra serving of pasta is way easier than spending another 30 minutes on the treadmill. Then, if you take it a step further by combining a clean diet with an increased exercise regimen, you’ll be shorts-ready in no time.
Let our strawberry kiwi smoothie help you get there. It combines three of our most-loved fruits: banana, strawberry and kiwi. The banana provides plenty of natural sweetness while the strawberry and kiwi marry together to create the perfect springtime flavor. Plus, it’s packed with vitamin B6 and manganese from the banana, antioxidants from the strawberries, and vitamin C from the kiwi.
Want to spruce things up even more? Add a scoop of protein powder for more staying power, or a handful of spinach for added vitamin B and C, calcium and iron.
On your next trip to the grocery store, be sure to give the produce a thorough look and see which fruits and vegetables might pair well together for other spring-inspired smoothie combinations. Think mango-pineapple, banana-coconut and orange-passionfruit. Strawberry-kiwi just happens to be our current favorite, but there’s plenty of time to dream up new combinations before spring officially arrives.
1/2 c 0% fat plain Greek yogurt
1 very ripe banana, cut into slices and then frozen prior to use*
5 fresh or frozen strawberries
1 kiwi, peeled and quartered
water to desired consistency
1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Add more water to thin out, or more banana or ice to increase thickness.
*Note: If your banana is not ripe, it will affect the sweetness of the smoothie. In this case, compensate with added honey or stevia.
